Much cheaper get currently no notebook: the ASUS X50GL costs around 500 euros including only the small, lightweight Netbooks are: they are but slower and less equipped. The ASUS X50GL is, however, a standard notebook with dual core processor (Intel Pentium dual core T3200), 250 GB of big hard drive and a 15.4 inch large display. The screen is anti-reflective, what makes the ASUS X50GL as well as the installed Vista business especially for professional users. Tempo: okay but two years the 75 points in the SYSmark would be slow – for the price before 2007, a top performance have been. But now is the ASUS X50GL with this result significantly behind current notebooks from the 800-Euro price range.
Who wants to spend but only 500 euros for a notebook that can be accessed, because the ASUS X50GL is slightly faster than similarly priced notebooks with AMD processor. For multimedia applications reflected RAM the laptop despite only 2 GB even just fine. The slow hard disk but slows him in Office programs. The nVidia chipset graphics packs but not even older games: far cry was the ASUS X50GL even at 1024 x 768 pixels only to 23 frames per second. Battery life: not even two hours despite the weak data components the X50GL is power-hungry and lasts less than two hours on battery power. The interfaces, the laptop offers including HDMI and 4 USB ports. Lack of an e-SATA port and a FireWire port. But especially for the network, the ASUS X50GL offers everything you want: modem, Gigabit-LAN, 11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Display: Not suitable for image editors and DVD-friends the anti-reflective and quite bright with 179 cd/m2 screen showed when the color rendering a clear reddish tinge. It is therefore hardly suited in image editing and DVD playback. After all, can be read fairly easily the display under the open sky. In the Conference room or the reading room you could fall with the ASUS X50GL however unpleasant: under load, the fan is spinning with clearly audible 1.6 sone. Conclusion: The equipment is perfectly okay–otherwise the ASUS notebook only the really convincing very reasonable price.
